Old Sacramento

Wooden boardwalks, the river, that gold-rush facade. It leans cinematic with almost no effort, which is why it is a favorite for engagement and couples photos. Go early, before the foot traffic wakes up, and you get the whole street to yourself.

The riverfront and Tower Bridge

That golden bridge against an evening sky is tough to beat. Sunset gives you warm light bouncing off the water. Stick around for blue hour right after and the bridge lights up like a postcard. It works just as well for wedding portraits as it does for a quince.

McKinley Park and the Rose Garden

Roses in late spring, big trees the rest of the year, soft open shade all day. It is gentle and romantic, made for family photos and maternity sessions. Mornings are quiet and the light is kind.

Capitol Park

Palm-lined paths, the dome, and a tree collection gathered from all over the world. Great when you want a clean, classic Sacramento backdrop with a little grandeur behind it.

Midtown alleys and murals

Color, edge, texture. Midtown is where I head when a shoot wants attitude, which makes it perfect for personal brand photos, musicians, and editorial portraits. The murals rotate, so there is always a fresh wall to lean against.

The valley's golden fields

Late summer, just outside the city, the grass turns gold and the whole thing glows at sunset. This is the dreamy, larger-than-life look people save to their boards for a year before they book.

Beyond Sacramento
